It's a jungle out there!

We arrived safely in Iquitos and arranged a day trip for tomorrow through a Captain I've been emailing with for a few weeks. He's originally from Indiana, but more on that later. And, we found a great hostel that we are really happy with! The Captain of our tour tomorrow also owns a Café that is well-known in town for quality, local ingredients and great food safety. We were able to enjoy our afternoon smoothies at an outdoor table with a breath-taking view:

It's really hot and sticky here. Thank goodness for the zip-off pants I warily purchased before this trip. They were perfect for just this occasion. It was chilly when we left Lima this morning (pant legs zipped on). First stop after disembarking outdoors on the tarmac arriving in Iquitos, zip off pant legs and apply some Deet.

We had a really enjoyable experience with the domestic airline today, Peruvian. We will definitely be flying with them again. We were the only non-Peruvians on this flight, but they made all announcements in both Spanish and English and were very friendly. The cost of the tickets were also about a third of what we would have paid with a bigger airline like LAN and no one fussed about our questionably-sized carry-ons.

It's off to bed now, tomorrow is a big day- we are taking on the Amazon.

xoxo,
K
